Fashion Logistic for Hanging Garments (GOH)?

Fashion Logistic for Hanging Garments (GOH)?

Should You Use GOH in Your Supply Chain?

Garments on Hanger (GOH) is an item of clothing that is transported through part or all of the supply chain on hangers, i.e., “garment hanging.” At some stages of the supply chain, they may be placed in a carton while attached to a hanger, rather than hanging from a rail or rope.

To determine if GOH is right for your supply chain, consider the following three key questions:

  1. What fabric are the garments made of? How is the product affected when hung on a hanger? Does the fabric cause the garments to fall off more easily? Do they crease/wrinkle easily?

Leather or bulkier garments are often considered for GOH shipping because they typically travel better and require less reworking in the store. If you ship thicker garments, they may cause hangers to fall off the rail if they are not properly secured to the bar.

Silk garments are sometimes more likely to fall off if they are not properly secured to the hanger.

  1. How will you sell your clothes? Will your clothes be packed in boxes for the last mile? Will your goods be finished in the store?

If your garments are packed in cartons, are often damaged, or frequently require finishing at destination, GOH is definitely worth considering. GOH can help you protect your garments throughout the supply chain.

If your garments need to be packed in cardboard boxes for the last mile, they are more likely to be shipped flat-packed from the source.

  1. What is your origin and destination? Will your factories load goods in GOH units? Can your transportation partner handle GOH products at origin and destination? Can your stores/customers handle GOH units?
If your factory does not have the capacity to handle GOH units at the factory or if stores cannot handle larger GOH units, GOH will be less attractive. Both scenarios will result in additional handling of garments and/or packing of garments into smaller units.

If your factory or partners don’t have the capabilities you want today, consider whether or not the benefits justify future development. It’s always important to consider the end-to-end impact.

These questions should help you assess how the product performs in the context of your current setup and product mix.

Once you have established when it makes sense to send GOH, the next step is to establish how .

How you ship GOH really depends on your logistics partner’s ability to ensure the following:

  • Flexible capacity: Can they ensure cost-effective shipping for a range of quantities and allow for better consolidation with packaged goods?
  • Support of All modes of transportation : How will your logistics partner support multimodal shipping options: air, ocean, truck, ocean + air, rail, and air?
  • Lower costs : Can your supplier ensure lower costs for your products throughout the supply chain?
  • Consistency, reliability and availability of standardized GOH shipping units
  • Garment integrity : Can the logistics provider minimize the rate of falling, crushing, etc.?
  • Security : How will handling and theft be minimized?

Finding a service provider that understands all of these factors and can create customized solutions that meet your current and future needs is critical to your continued success.
